UN-MASKING the Environmental Injustices at Rabai Kaliya Ng'ombe

Yesterday Human Rights Agenda[HURIA] made another Community Consultative Meeting at Boyani - Rabai, more that we established was, there had been lack of Public Participation by design either willfully or negligently being occasioned by the E.I.A experts before The Third Engineering Bureau of China City Quarry was cleared for Licensing by National Environment Management Authority - Kenya . We inter alia found out ... that the said Third Engineering Bureau of China City had contravened Noise, water quality and waste management regulations stipulated under Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999. As an organization, we have made it our agenda to bring into account all persons, agents, servants of China City and by extension NEMA who are likely seem to have either willfully colluded with the proponent to violate the right to clean and healthy environment which is enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and other related Environmental Act of Parliament  

Human Rights Training for Probation Officers in Kwale County

Human Rights Agenda[HURIA] Partnered with # MalaikaFoundation and Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG) to conduct a Human Rights Training for Probation Officers in Kwale County. The Training was anchored on Interpretation of Art.48 - CoK on Access to Justice as well as Art.159 - CoK which provides for the Use of Alternative Justice Systems. ... HURIA views Probation as an Institution that can lead to Restoration as a Principle actor in restorative Justice, and that Alternative Justice Systems can be used as a Response to C.V.E. We agreed to Plan for an Open Day on Alternative Justice System and CVE with Probation Department and all Key Stakeholders on a date yet to be confirmed.

Querying the Quarries: In the Quest for Environmental Justice

On a fact-finding mission, We visited Boyani village in Rabai Constituency following a complaint lodged by more than 40 families to Human Rights Agenda[HURIA] over a quarry and stone crashing company located in their neighborhood. The blasting and stone crashing activities by the company allegedly emit heavy dust and ground vibrations that have cracked several houses including classrooms in a nearby primary school.
